Scott Adams Against the State

dilbertIn a recent post on his blog, the creator of the Dilbert comic relates a personal tragedy caused by government.

My father, age 86, is on the final approach to the long dirt nap (to use his own phrase). His mind is 98% gone, and all he has left is hours or possibly months of hideous unpleasantness in a hospital bed. I’ll spare you the details, but it’s as close to a living Hell as you can get…

I’d like to proactively end his suffering and let him go out with some dignity. But my government says I can’t make that decision. Neither can his doctors. So, for all practical purposes, the government is torturing my father until he dies.

I’m a patriotic guy by nature. I love my country. But the government? Well, we just broke up.

When libertarians stress the importance of personal liberty, it may come across as abstract, idealistic or even utopian. Unfortunately, every violation of liberty is a real crime that hurts real people. The suffering of the Adams family is not an exception in a world dominated by governments. It is the norm. It is so much the norm, that only occasionally do people notice that something is wrong. Even more rarely does someone risk the ire of the brainwashed masses to stand up clearly state the truth.

Hatred of the government and those who support its evil. Pure libertarian stance on the right to die. Rating: Four Murrays
